What the Ladybird Heard

A young boy from Nursery can be seen using some craft materials to create an enclosure for some toy farm animals he is playing with.

This week, we looked at the story ‘What The Ladybird Heard’.

We were interested in finding real and pretend minibeasts in the garden, exploring our understanding of the world.

A young girl from Nursery is pictured outdoors, wearing her winter coat and smiling for the camera, whilst holding a toy Ladybird in her hand.

Some of us enjoyed retelling the story using the puppets and referring to the story book while working on our literacy and language skills.

We inquired about the different habitats farm animals lived in and followed this up by making enclosures using a variety of materials and waste resources.

We also explored a task enhancing our fine motor cutting skills to complete a farmyard challenge of matching the animals to their homes.

To develop our interests in maps, we looked at the map in the story book and plotted our own map of the story.

Action

George wanted to show his friends his ladybird books from home that were written by the same author we were studying this term.

To end our week we made cards for our parents and carers for Mothering Sunday. We collaged laminated hearts with shaped tissue paper and sequins.

The Little Birds were so proud of their art work and achievements.

We also celebrated World Book Day – dressing up as our favourite word and sharing more of our story books from home with our friends.

What a busy week of learning we have all had at Little Birds Nursery!
