Christmas in the Nursery

Two Nursery pupils, a boy and a girl, are seen decorating the Christmas Tree in their classroom together.

This week in the Nursery, Little Birds have been very excited to see the tree up in the home corner and enjoyed decorating it.

Some of us made our own decorations for the tree.

The Post Office arrived in the outdoor role play area. Little Birds wrote cards and letters to our friends and family. This helped develop our writing and literacy skills.

We also connected to experiences happening in our community and everyday life around them. Some of us looked at maps and spoke about where we lived before role playing delivering the letters.

We looked at the book ‘Little Glow’ and listened to the story throughout the week.

We talked day by day about the illustrations and made connections to our home lives.

This developed our communication and language skills as well as an understanding of the world around us.

Little Birds printed with natural foliage that were brought in as it was collected from gardens. We represented a fir tree on our Christmas cards and made a candle on the front from coloured paper shapes. This activity encouraged us to be very creative.

Look at our candles, they are like ‘Little Glow’ from the story.

We also enjoyed learning about Hanukkah, the Jewish celebration.

We made pictures of the Menorah candle by hand and finger painting.

Little Birds explored the battery candles, and we spoke about the safety around flames and fire.

Some of us sang a song with the practitioners about ‘5 candles burning so bright’ using the resources.
