What happened during Earth Day at Nursery?

To begin the new term, Little Birds learnt about the world and what Earth Day involved.

Little Birds spoke about caring for the minibeasts and birds in our environment and in our own gardens. We decided to get some bird seed and fill up seed feeders so they could be hung on the tree. We also had a chance to make our own bird feeders from cardboard tubes, honey, lard and seed.

We were finding natural coloured resources in the garden and made colour collages from them.

We found minibeasts in the garden and hung up a bug home to help provide shelter for them in different weathers. We also started to make a large bug hotel using a crate and natural resources. These activities helped develop and enhance our understanding of the world around us.

Some of us made our own stories about Earth Day, enhancing our literacy and developing our imagination and communication skills.

Other craft activities were available for us to choose from including collaging Earth outlines with various coloured tissue paper.

We listened to stories about recycling, our world and read “Who is in the egg?”, “One World” and “Peppa Pig: Recycling Fun!”.

Exciting Arrivals!

This week we also had an exciting delivery – our incubator arrived in the nursery with hens eggs inside. We are observing with fascination and cannot wait to see eggs hatch! More updates to follow!
