Exotic Explorers Visit Reception

Three young Reception pupils are pictured touching the scales on a Snake, which has been brought in by the company Exotic Explorers during a visit to the academy.

Today, Reception had a visit from the company Exotic Explorers. The children had the opportunity to meet five different animals which came from the range of habitats that we have been learning about. This included a Snake from the jungle, a Chinchilla from a cold environment and a giant Millipede!

The children were very excited to meet all the animals. They were able to hold and stroke the giant African Millipede which some children described as “smooth” and “hard” whilst some said its feet stuck to their fingers. When they were introduced to the Fire Salamander, they had to wet their hands to protect its skin.

Next came the very large Boa Constrictor which we were able to stroke as it slithered in front of us. The instructor told us that they only eat once every two months!

Finally, we met two furry friends. The first was a Chinchilla which was very soft to stroke but we couldn’t hold it as it would make its fur too warm. Chinchillas live in really cold environments so they have lots of fur to keep them warm. Then came the rabbits which hopped around the room and ate their food. Rabbits are normally brown in the wild to camouflage in with the trees but this Rabbit was black and white.

What an exciting visit, we can’t wait to tell all our friends and family about it!

Many thanks,
Reception Team
