The Little Birds enjoyed listening to the story of ‘The Ugly Duckling’ this week. They spoke about the characters feelings and recalled the ending when the duckling was really a Swan.
We looked at the characters from ‘The Ugly Duckling’ story.
The children enjoyed retelling the story using stick puppets and developing their literacy skills. Some children remembered how to start a story appropriately by saying, ‘Once upon a time’ or ‘One day’.
The children spoke about diversity by recalling similarities and differences about themselves compared to their peers in a positive way. This developed their communication skills and their sense of self as well as an understanding of the world and different cultures.
We carried out exciting and fun art activities including painting swans and drawing the life cycle of a swan. This developed the children’s understanding of the world as well as their expressive arts.
For Mathematics, we created our own repeating patterns using pictures of Swans and Ducks.
To end the week we celebrated World Book Day. We dressed up in our pyjamas or as a book character from our own favourite story book.
