World Cup Football

Eight Dartford Primary pupils are seen posing for a group photo together in their Football kit on an astro turf.

On Friday 25th November, 8 footballers set off to their own mini version of the world cup. We were representing the mighty African country of Senegal. With faces painted and flags ready, we approached the venue in fine voice, with some of the children having created a chant to get in the spirit of the tournament. Our first match was a tight affair with several opportunities squandered. Our goalkeeper was in fine form but was eventually beaten by a wonder strike from outside the area. Losing the first match in the group meant qualification was going to be tough, but we approached the next game on the front foot. We were able to grind out a draw against a very organised Moroccan team. This meant we needed to win the last game to have a chance of progressing to the quarter finals. Two quick goals put us in a very strong position but we were not able to add to this tally despite our best efforts. We were hopeful of getting through as one of the strongest runners up but unfortunately other teams had racked up some bigger scores and we went out on goal difference.

The children had a wonderful time and were still singing on the way back to school.
