Last week, the children who read the most minutes for Buster’s Book Club in each year group at KS2 were rewarded with the opportunity to help make our new display for the Year 5 and 6 library area with. A company called ‘Arty Party’ came into work with the children to create the masterpiece that now pops out at you as you walk through the Year 5 and 6 hall. The Year 5 and 6 winning classes helped to make the paper mache on day 1 and on the second day the Year 3 and 4 winning classes helped to paint it. As soon as the display was fastened to the wall, the children were desperate to go over and marvel at it. I certainly hope the display inspires the children to pick up a book and read for pleasure!

Here are some quotes from the children who helped to create our newest addition to our Year 5 and 6 reading environment:
On Monday, two people from the Arty Party came in. They showed us how to cut and shape wood, paper mache our creations, add shape to the arms, legs, tummy and head and stick things onto the base- with tape. I really enjoyed our half an hour with the Arty Party as I now have learnt how to make cartoon (lifesize) people from books. It was still really fun! – Freya
I like how we made a 3D Willy Wonka out of wood and cardboard. I also liked that they added extras on the Willy Wonka design (such as the book and more Roald Dahl characters.) Overall, I enjoyed the Arty Party. It was a fun experience. – Fatehvir
