January opening – Principal’s Statement

Dear Parents/Carers,

First of all I would like to wish you all a ‘happy new year!’ I hope you all managed to have a good Christmas and had some special time with your family.

You may have heard on the news yesterday that some primary schools in England have been directed by the Government to remain closed on Monday 4th January. Dartford is one of the areas deemed to be ‘extremely high risk’ and therefore Dartford Primary Academy will be closed. I thank you for your understanding in advance and appreciate that like us, this is very short notice to inform you of our closure. I hope you understand this is beyond our control.

We will be moving all year groups including Nursery to online learning for the time being. Pupils are likely to return to face-to-face teaching on Monday 18th January but this is subject to a review by the government nearer the time.

In order for us to get online learning in place and organise staff for our Critical key-worker and vulnerable children we have decided to implement an additional emergency inset day on Monday 4th January. Online learning and Critical key-worker/vulnerable bubbles will therefore commence on Tuesday 5th January.

The decision made to close is to reduce transmission rates within our community and as such we will open to provide childcare provision only for critical key workers and vulnerable children. Please do not send your child in if you have alternative care available. No formal teaching will take place whilst in the provision. Children will work independently to access their online learning. A list of critical workers can be found: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-maintaining-educational-provision/guidance-for-schools-colleges-and-local-authorities-on-maintaining-educational-provision

We will need to see evidence of your critical worker status to access the child care provision. If you believe you are entitled to access this provision please complete the following Google Form by Sunday 3rd January 10pm.We will make contact on Monday 4th January so that we can arrange to see your evidence and discuss your individual circumstances. https://forms.gle/Q2FTmsVLA3V9RVee7

We will contact parents of ‘vulnerable’ children on Monday and invite those children to come in for the period that we are closed.

If you are not a critical key-worker your child will be provided with online learning activities from Tuesday 5th January. If you have any difficulties with accessing online learning, because of internet problems, please contact the office on Monday 4th January.

All children who attend school in person over the next two weeks will need to bring a packed lunch, at least two bottles of water and should wear their school uniform as usual please. Parents in receipt of Free school meals will be contacted separately to arrange collection.

All children will be based at the York Road Junior site as from Tuesday 5th January. We will update you on which Bubble gate you will be required to enter by once we have finalised numbers.

Yours sincerely

Rebecca Roberts | Principal
