Class Information

  • Home reader books are changed every Friday. We encourage the children to read the book three times and spend some time talking about the book. These reading books are based on what your child is learning in school and is a celebration of how well they can read to you. If your child can read this with confidence, fluency and accuracy – that is a celebration! Reading is essential to progress so please try and hear your child read every day – even for ten minutes J
  • Home picture books are changed every Friday. These books are to encourage children to read for pleasure. This might be that you read the book to your child, talking about the story as you go. These books are chosen by the children from the story box or library.
  • Homework will be sent home every Friday. Please return the yellow homework book by Thursday so homework can be shared, marked and set for the following week.
  • Tapestry Please feel free to update Tapestry as frequently as you like. Children are able to share what they have done at home with their class and it is lovely to celebrate home achievements as well as school achievements! If you need help accessing, logging in or recording on Tapestry, please ask your class teacher.
  • PE The children will be doing PE every Wednesday. They must have a P.E kit in school and children who wear earrings are advised not to wear them on this day or they will be taped up for the P.E session.
  • Star of the Week Every Friday, children’s work is celebrated in ‘Celebration Assembly.’ The adults in the class will choose a child who will be our star of the week and who will receive a certificate. The star of the week will also be able to take our class bear home for the weekend.
  • Please return letters or reply slips in your child’s book bag. The children are encouraged to hand them in to a class adult in the morning.
  • Please ensure water bottles and belongings are clearly labelled
  • Children go outside in all weathers. Please ensure children are dressed appropriately or have a raincoat on their peg – just in case!

Where we are in time and place – Term 6

This term is all about exploring! Our inquiry statement this term is: Discoveries may occur when people explore. Reception found dinosaur eggs, slime and an igloo in the garden area and we had to record our findings and discuss where they might have come from! The children suggested the slime was from aliens and maybe it fell from space, which led us to explore outer space and the different planets. We will be exploring our own planet and local environment as well as further afield like the rainforests, arctic and jungle! Towards the end of term we will be the bravest explorers as we venture into year one and begin to see what it will be like for us in September.

Sharing the planet – Term 5

This term is all about minibeasts! Our inquiry statement this term is: All living creatures may play a role in our life. Upon arrival of some tiny caterpillars in our classrooms, we started to learn the role of minibeasts and the wider impact they have on Earth and in our lives. We will learn about pollinators, decomposers and natural insecticides and why each minibeast is precious and most importantly, how to look after them.
